Master´s Degree Program in Health Promotion

Health Promotion Master’s degree is focused on the expertise on promotion and management of the health and well-being of the population. Professionals with a Bachelor's degree in social, health, or other relevant sciences and at least two years' work experience can continue their Health Promotion Expertise studies in this program. The language of studies is Finnish, but a large part of the teaching literature is in English.

Structure of the studies

Health promotion study program is planned in line with international health promotion competence criteria (International Union for Health Promotion and Health Education: Core Competencies and Professional Standards For Health Promotion, 2016) as well as by national reforms, strategies and competence needs. The degree studies includes

  • Health Promotion expertise studies (40 ECTS)
  • Elective studies (15 ECTS)
  • Research and development studies (35 ECTS) including master´s thesis

Working profiles of graduates

Graduates will reach expertise in health promotion, such as applying and developing evidence-based practices, multidisciplinary cooperation, coordination and leadership. Graduates are critical, development-oriented experts and can work in a variety of health and well-being roles in public, private or third sector organizations or as entrepreneurs.
