Additional studies for nurses are aimed at persons who have completed a Bachelor's degree in nursing abroad and who are applying from Valvira the right to practise as a nurse in Finland.
The goal of the studies is to achieve a competence level required for working as a nurse in Finland, including the competence in accordance with the professional qualification directive (2005/36/EC).
The studies consist of four sections, into which Finnish language studies are integrated. The duration of the studies is approximately 12 months, but it might vary due to additional studies or additional internships, if required. Additional requirements are determined in the evaluation of competence before starting the studies.
A language of tuition is Finnish. Studies include blended forms of teaching: on-campus teaching, online teaching and independent online studies. On-campus teaching is organized at Metropolia Myllypuro campus, Myllypurontie 1, 00920 Helsinki. Classes are scheduled approximately once a week.

The studies are organized by the Validation Pathway of Health Care Professionals Project which is funded by the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE). SECLE promotes the competence development of working-age people and the availability of skilled labour.
