The Get Work Vantaa project develops a new operating model in co-operation between the City of Vantaa, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, and Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the project is to lower the employment and career barriers for English-speaking job-seekers and enhance multicultural competence in Finnish workplaces.
Project Duration
June 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024. (Vantaa and Laurea until May 31, 2024)
Funding
The project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESR+), with an external funding share of 75%.
Implementers
The project is a joint project led by the City of Vantaa, with Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Laurea University of Applied Sciences as collaborating partners.
Objectives
The Get Work Vantaa project aims to develop a new model for English-speaking career and employment services. It focuses on enhancing the employment and skill development of non-Finnish speakers and supporting employers in internationalizing their work environments. The aim of Metropolia's partial implementation is to develop English-language career and educational guidance for target group and enhance their job search and suitable career opportunities. The aim of the project is to create so called “work first” approach for non-native speakers that they can get employed in an early phase after arriving in Finland. The goal is to integrate this model into Vantaa’s employment services by January 1, 2025, when the communities take charge in employment services
Target Groups
- Individuals: Non-native speakers residing in Vantaa with temporary residence permits (including recently arrived Ukrainian immigrants) who seek employment, career advancement, and skill development and have English as a working language
- Businesses: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vantaa and its neighbouring regions interested in diversifying their workforce and increasing multicultural competence.
- Professionals: Experts working in employment services and services for immigrants who want to enhance their ability to promote non-native speakers’ employment, recognize their skills, and support employers in recruiting English-speaking workers and fostering international work environments.
Results
The quantitative goal of the Metropolitan partial implementation was 100 individual customers, and the goal was achieved as planned. The Get Work Vantaa service has been developed during the project using service design methods, and based on this, a work-first model has been modeled, which is shown in the picture above. The work-first model will be integrated into the new organization of Vantaa's employment services during 2025.
