Multidisciplinary expertise for health care and rehabilitation services and their management
The Department of Rehabilitation and Examination is a work community of about 2,000 students and 100 experts. We provide education leading to eight UAS Bachelor’s degrees in health care and five UAS Master’s degrees in health care and social services. Our experts provide tuition with a workplace-oriented and multidisciplinary developmental approach.
Our strengths with regard to content are, on the one hand, our competence which focuses on examining and diagnosing patients, enhancing their functioning capacity and providing them with rehabilitation care, and on the other hand, our expertise in online pedagogy, supervisory work in health care and social services, and RDI activities.
Our degree programmes annually graduate nearly 700 experts who are in high demand in tasks requiring special professional skills in health care and rehabilitation. Of these graduates, around 300 complete a Master’s degree. Our graduates readily find employment in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and, thanks to their special expertise, across the rest of Finland.
The staff of the department include seasoned health care experts as well as a number of lecturer-developers and RDI-specialists who are experienced in generic working life skills in the areas of language, communications, digital skills and life sciences. This enables us to respond in an expert manner to various further education needs and collaboration projects in the labour market.
Our department has modern tools and premises at the new Myllypuro campus as well as on digital platforms.
HyMy-Village serves as a learning and development environment based on an ecosystem approach at Myllypuro campus. The village offers diverse opportunities for practical training, innovation activities and multidisciplinary development work in authentic customer situations.
Research, development and innovation
Our department has dynamic project activities and we are well familiar with various types of funding channels. We redesign and develop technologies applying various methods and ways and models of working. We offer an operating and innovation environment for solving challenges across industries, sectors and technologies.
Lifelong learning and collaboration with workplaces
The degree structure offered by the department, from Bachelor’s to Master’s degree, already offers a strong path for individuals and communities to increase and update their competence. There are also plenty of other valuable lifelong learning services on offer for people working as experts and for various companies and organisations partnering with us.
The completion of a degree can also be started at the Open UAS. The Open UAS path allows students to seek admission to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme once they have completed at least 55 credit points (Bachelor’s) or 25 credit points (Master’s). In the case of a Master’s degree, the applicant must also hold a Bachelor’s degree that can be included in the selected degree.
