Education Partnership of Textile and Clothing Sector Materials & Sustainability

The EU’s Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles aims to change the sector greener and therefore impacts all stakeholders of European Textile and Clothing sector (TCS). Existing staff and future young professionals in the TCS sector need to master technical skills along with digital and green skills.

An effective culture of lifelong learning is key to ensuring that everyone has the knowledge, skills and competences they need to thrive in their personal and professional lives. Micro-credentials certify the learning outcomes of short-term learning experiences, such as a short course or training. They offer a flexible, targeted way to help people develop the knowledge, skills and competences they need for their personal and professional development.

Decorative image about SusTexEdu modules and micro-credentialsThe Erasmus+ SusTexEdu project is fully aligned with this initiative and was initiated to enhance knowledge in higher education (HE) and vocational education and training (VET) regarding textile materials, textile technology, sustainability and circular economy (CE).

The SusTexEdu concept consists of 6 thematic modules, each of which contains small learning units that can be flexibly combined according to the required competence needs. The small learning units can be completed in courses and training with ECTS crediting into micro-credentials. Micro-credentials are estimated to act as a bridge between level 4 and 6 education.

Project Results

The project results of SusTexEdu will be published by Autumn 2024.

PR 1: SusTexEdu has mapped the competence needs and gaps in TC sector in the partner countries. The report "Sustainability in the Textile and Clothing Sector (TCS): Competence Requirements Identified in the SusTexEdu Partner Countries", sheds light to what kind green skills and competencies the TCS needs, and what kinds of job titles might be employed in the near future.

PR 2: SusTexEdu has developed 33 small learning units (equal to 39 ECTs) dedicated to textile and clothing teachers and educators as a primary target group. A number of 14 small learning units was piloted during the existing courses within the VET and HE partner institutions. SusTexEdu learning concept with the syllabi and learning material will be available on e-learning platform Moodle.

PR 3: The report, "SusTexEdu Quality Assurance Handbook of Micro-credentials", guides the teachers and educational institutes on creating micro-credentials and ensuring their quality.
