Hera1 and Hera Competence

The project is over.

Metropolia´s HERA1 project develops higher education and other services of higher education institutions specially aimed for the immigrants living in Finland. HERA1 has also arranged some seminars and training for the staff of the higher education institutions.

Furthermore, there is a qualitative survey on the best practises of metropolitan higher education institutions’ working life cooperation carried out by HERA1. The working period of HERA1 is 2007-2009.

Immigrant-focused HERA Competence project started at 1st of January 2010. It is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education between 2010-2012. HERA Competence is carried out by Metropolia in close cooperation with Häme University of Applied Sciences, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Laurea University of Applied Sciences.

HERA Competence develops the following areas and issues

  • Pre-degree higher education studies for the immigrants in the following fields of study: technology, business, social services, tourism and hospitality management, vocational teacher education
  • Degree programmes (Bachelor´s level) tailored for the immigrants in the following fields of study: business, social services, tourism and hospitality management, technology
  • Special marketing and guidance services for the immigrants in the higher education institutions
  • Special work placement arrangements and tailored support on employment for the immigrant-backgrounded students
