Starting ConREM studies

Please note that all the information below applies to students who have been accepted to the Master´s Degree programme in Construction and Real Estate Management (ConREM).

As the ConREM Master´s Degree programme is jointly run by Metropolia UAS and Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW Berlin) take time to read through carefully the ConREM specific information below in addition to the common Metropolia information that is given above. Make sure to complete all the steps in order to be able to start your studies in time.

Please start all the necessary arrangements as soon as possible after receiving the acceptance letter (Admission notice) from HTW Berlin, so that you are able to commence your studies in the beginning of September 2025.

Remember to visit this webpage regularly as you will find the most updated information here.

Accepting the study place and enrollment for the academic year

Accept the study place by the given deadline according to the information given by the HTW Berlin and pay the fee to HTW by the given deadline. Your enrollment as a ConREM student takes places in HTW Berlin, so direct all inquiries related to enrollment and HTW enrollment fees directly to HTW Berlin.

Please note, that you do not need to accept your study place and enroll as a present student separately to Metropolia. This has been taken care of by the ConREM personnel.

Residence permit

As stated in the Metropolia common instructions above, make sure to apply for a residence permit immediately through the Finnish Immigration Services once you have received your acceptance letter (Admission Notice) from HTW Berlin.

You´ll apply for residence permit with your HTW Berlin Admission notice. Metropolia won´t provide any additional acceptance letter. Obtaining a permit might take much longer than they officially state on the website. Please note, that your residence permit must be valid already on 1 September.

Be sure to apply for a Finnish Personal Identity Code with your residence permit application. It is mandatory to get this code and it is easier to do it when applying for your residence permit than to wait until you are already in Finland.

Also note that having a valid health insurance cover with a reliable and solvent company or institution is obligatory for obtaining a residence permit. If you need to purchase a health insurance to Finland/Germany, please find possible companies from the Finnish Immigration Service website and check also the HTW Berlin website.

Housing

It is important to start searching for a room as soon as you have received your acceptance letter (Admission notice). It is recommended to apply for housing simultaneously through various channels, both from private market and HOAS (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region). If you are applying housing from HOAS, you need to apply as soon you have received your acceptance letter (Admission notice) from HTW, since the acceptance letter cannot be older than 3 months.

It is a good idea to search for accommodation in eastern Helsinki, since your campus is located in Myllypuro campus, located next to Myllypuro metro station.

Please note, that Metropolia cannot offer assistance in finding accommodation.

The most important steps regarding housing

  1. START EARLY AND BE ACTIVE: The most important thing is to be active yourself and start looking for an apartment as soon as possible.
  2. USE VARIOUS CHANNELS: It is recommended to apply for an apartment simultaneously through various channels.
  3. BE PREPARED TO PAY 600 - 900 € PER MONTH FOR HOUSING: Please note that accommodation is much more expensive in Helsinki than in Berlin. A room in a shared apartment can cost around 500 € per month, so it is a good idea to team up and look for apartments in groups. Studio apartments are always the most expensive option and in the Helsinki region the can cost 600 - 1000 € a month.
  4. BE PREPARED TO LIVE FURTHER AWAY FROM THE CITY CENTRE OR CAMPUS AREAS: Your possibilities of finding an apartment are much better if you are willing to live outside the city centre or campus areas. You can easily check the public transport connections to the campus by using the Journey Planner. In Finland it is very common for the students to live further away from campus. Especially locations near the metro line are very conveniently connected to the Myllypuro Campus.
  5. NEVER SEND MONEY OR YOUR PASSPORT INFORMATION TO ANYONE: When renting an apartment from a private person do not send your passport information to anyone before you have seen the apartment and signed a contract. An offer that sounds too good to be true (e.g. very cheap apartment close to the centre) is usually a scam.
  6. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PLACE TO STAY BEFORE ARRIVING TO FINLAND: Whatever you decide concerning accommodation, please make sure to have a place to stay before arriving to Finland. It is extremely difficult to find accommodation here in September. If you need temporary accommodation near the campus, please check:
    • Innotelli Apartments
    • Kotimaailma Helsinki
    • SleepWell Apartments East
    • Forenom
    • Noli studios (next to Myyrmäki campus Vantaa with good public transport connections)

For instructions on how to get to the campus, please check out Journey Planner from HSL webpage.

European Health Insurance Card

EU-citizens and those non-EU citizens who have an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card): please remember to bring your EHIC with you. By presenting your EHIC, you will receive urgent medical treatment on the same terms and costs as the local residents. General information about EHIC and instructions for Finland.

Finnish Personal Identity code

Students who do not need to apply for residence permit, book an appointment with Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) to register in Finland. Do this as soon as you know your arrival date, because the queues can be up to 8 weeks long. This is necessary in order to obtain the Finnish Personal Identity code. The Finnish personal Identity Code will for example allow you to open a Finnish bank account which is needed for e-identification to access e-services of public administration in Finland. You need the Finnish Personal Identity code also to benefit from student discounts in public transport.

Please note that Metropolia cannot expedite this process in any way.

Arriving to Finland

Your studies will start on September 2025 on Myllypuro campus. Please be prepared to arrive to Finland on 1 September at the latest. Please note, that if you´ll receive housing from HOAS, it might be difficult to receive keys to your apartment on Sunday 1 September, so it would be good to plan the start date of your residence permit and your arrival taking this into consideration.

Please also bring your own laptop with you.

Commencing your studies

Your first year studies (1st and 2nd semester) will be conducted at Metropolia UAS and attendance is expected. Your second year studies (3rd semester) at HTW Berlin will start on October 2026.

At Metropolia, there are two types of ConREM student groups which are determined based on your application documents regarding work experience. Please note that It is not possible to have your work experience re-evaluated and student status changed.

  • Double-degree students: If you have indicated on your application that you have more than two years of post-Bachelor work experience in relevant fields, you can obtain a degree from both HTW Berlin and Metropolia. You will be considered as a double-degree student at Metropolia and have your study right at Metropolia for three Academic years. In addition, you will have student benefits such as student health care services FSHS (you still need a separate health insurance), longer residence permit with one application process, smoother application process for HSL etc.
  • Exchange students: If you do not have two years of post-Bachelor work experience, you will be receive a German Master’s degree title from HTW Berlin and will be considered as exchange students at Metropolia. Your study right at Metropolia will expire in the end of 2nd semester and your student benefits are limited in comparison to degree students.
    • Please note that physical presence in Finland is one of the eligibility conditions to receive Erasmus mobility grant from HTW Berlin and therefore you should arrive in Finland as instructed. Please note that due to Erasmus rules it is not possible to receive Erasmus mobility grant from Metropolia for the 3rd or 4th semester.

Activating your user account

Follow those instructions and take care of the deadlines so you are able to start your studies in time. We expect that you have your user ID`s activated in the beginning of studies and we won´t change our presentations or teaching mode due to those who haven´t completed their activation on time.
