Nursing Summer School

This is the first international Nursing Summer School we are going to run this August. This Summer School gives you an excellent opportunity to enhance your knowledge on the topics, and at the same time meet new people, expand your network internationally and visit Finland.

After the successful Summer School we had in August 2024 we are now planning to run it again in late August 2025. Exact dates will be published here later.

Why participate Nursing Summer School?

  • Wide Range of Subjects: Nurses need many critical skills to be able to successfully care for patients. We cover many of these areas, students from every level will benefit from this extra experience.
  • Hands-on Learning: The programme is almost entirely run in our practical Nursing skills classrooms or simulation rooms, we emphasize hands-on learning through practical learning and case studies.
  • Experienced Teachers: Summer school lecturers have been teaching clinical skills in English in Metropolia for several years and are experiences in running an international classroom.
  • International Environment: Summer School brings together participants and from all around the world, creating a diverse and multicultural learning environment. You will have the opportunity to network with fellow participants, learn from their experiences, and make new friends.

Studying in the Summer School programme

The summer school is suitable for Nursing students who have studied at least one year in their home institution. This is a 5 ECTS course.

Students will receive a short pre-assignment to complete before coming to Metropolia. Instructions to this will be sent to student's email in mid August.

In Metropolia, the classes will take place in our new Myllypuro campus which has excellent skills labs and simulation learning environments.

What students need to bring

Students should bring their:

  • Laptops
  • Nursing uniform from home university
  • Indoor shoes

If the home university does not have a system of uniforms, students should bring single color t-shirt and single color college pants or similar, without pictures or logos. Any clean set of shoes will work as indoor shoes, e.g. sneakers.

Student selection and evaluation

We are welcome to host 20 students from our partner institutions around the world. Some seats are available for Metropolia's own students. If we receive more than 20 applications, we will select the students so that as many partner universities will be represented as possible.

Students will receive information about the acceptance by email. Separate Acceptance/Welcome letters are issued only to students who need it to for visa purposes.

After the programme students will receive a Transcript of Records.The evaluation for the summer programme will be Pass/Fail. No numeric grade or separate evaluation will be given.

Registration

  1. Students must be nominated by the home institution by sending an email to hcss_exchange [at] metropolia.fi (hcss_exchange[at]metropolia[dot]fi)
  2. Students must fill in the registration form (link to the form will be published here)
  3. Registration deadline will be 30 May 2025
  4. Selected students will be notified in June 2025

Nursing Summer School Programme

The programme for 2025 wiill be updated here in May 2025. Below you can find the programme we had in 2024.

Programme for the Summer School will consists of getting to know Metropolia UAS, and practical classes for two weeks!

All of the teaching will happen on Myllypuro campus. Students will have a short pre-assignment.

Classes will run from Monday to Friday from 9 am - 4 pm.

Myllypuro Campus

The Summer School will take place on Myllypuro campus in Helsinki.

Myllypuro campus is located in the eastern part of Helsinki city. Address: Myllypurontie 1, Helsinki.

Public transport

The campus is easily accessible by public transport in 20 minutes from the Helsinki center with a metro. There are also several bus connections to the campus.

Students who can stay with us for the whole programme, two weeks, are entitled for a student discount in the local transport of the two week unlimited AB zone season ticket. The ticket costs approx. 30 € + card fee 5€. Ticket to and from the airport needs to be bought separately (ABC zone).

For students who come to Helsinki for one week we recommend a 6-day unlimited ticket for the AB zone (approx 32 €). HSL app is the most convenient way to use this ticket option. On the HSL app it is also possible to buy separate tickets to and from the airport. More information on HSL ticket website.

Accommodation

Selected students will receive a discount code to Forenom ApartHotels in Kamppi and Herttoniemi. Shared twin room will cost approximately 30€/night/student.

Students are free to arrange any other type of accommodation during their stay.
