Who needs a visa?

• Students from China, India, and some non-EU countries need a Schengen Visa (Type C) for short-term study visits in Finland.
• Check if you need a visa: Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

When to Apply?

• Apply immediately after receiving your invitation letter (sent after tuition fee payment).
• Processing time: ~15 days (can be longer in summer).
• Book your visa appointment early at VFS Global.

Visa Requirements:

• Proof of sufficient funds: At least €50/day (as of 2024).
• Invitation letter (request it during tuition payment).
• Valid travel insurance covering medical expenses.
• Round-trip flight booking & accommodation proof.

Visa Denied?

• Contact the Metropolia Summer School Team immediately (see contacts above) You may be eligible for a partial refund under cancellation policies.

Metropolia does not provide dorms, but here are some options:

• Hostels & Shared Apartments: €40–70/night
• Airbnb (Private Room): €40–90/night

Mid-range options

• Hotels near campus: €90–150/night
• Hotels in Helsinki City Center: €120–230/night

Best areas to stay:

• Near Metropolia Campus (Zone A): Arabianranta, Kallio, Pasila, Myllypuro
• City Center: Kamppi, Töölö, Kallio (easy metro access)

Airport Transport

From Helsinki Airport (HEL) to Metropolia Campus or City Center:

Train (Recommended)

• Take I or P train from the airport to Helsinki Central Station (~30 min, €4.60).
• From Central Station, take tram or metro to your accommodation.

Bus

• Bus 615 goes from the airport to Helsinki Central Station (~40 min, €4.60).

Taxi / Ride-hailing

• Taxis: Cost ~€40–50 to Helsinki city centre (~30 min).
• Apps: Use Uber, Bolt, or Taksi Helsinki for reliable rides.

Public Transport (HSL)

• 14-day travel pass: €54,10 (AB Zone; valid for metro, trams, and buses).
• Helsinki zones:
  • A: City Center
  • B: Metropolia Arabia and Myllypuro Campus (Arabianranta)
  • C: Airport (additional ticket needed)
• Buy tickets via the HSL App.

• Grocery shopping for two weeks: ~€100 - 150 if you cook.
• Breakfast at a café: €10 - 15
• Grocery store meals (salads/sandwiches): €4 - 8
• Dinner at a restaurant: €15 - 30
