The suitability of robot buses as part of the transportation system has been tested at Metropolia.

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences has joined the Finnish VAMOS network (Ecosystem for Autonomous Mobility in Smart Spaces). The network consists of Finnish companies and educational institutions that are developing autonomous mobility in smart spaces. The goal of the network is to promote Finnish expertise in smart mobility on an international scale.

The network was founded by DIMECC, an innovation platform for the smart mobility industry. DIMECC participates in the field’s international events and project applications, among other things.

Metropolia’s project manager and smart mobility theme leader, Oscar Nissin, notes that Metropolia has already been working closely with many companies that are members of the VAMOS network.

"Many of our students find employment after graduation at these companies. As a member of the VAMOS network, we will be able to collaborate even more closely. Through Metropolia’s practical research, we can also offer our expertise and infrastructure for the use of our partners”, Nissin says.

Research at Metropolia's Clean and Sustainable Solutions innovation hub focuses on smart mobility and how technological changes in transportation affect society on a practical level. Metropolia's research, development, and innovation activities (RDI) are carried out in phenomenon-based innovation hubs, where Metropolia's students, staff, and partners develop and pilot new solutions.

The RDI activities involve multidisciplinary collaboration on societal and global phenomena. The Clean and Sustainable Solutions innovation hub also seeks solutions for sustainable food systems, the circular economy, industry, and the development of clean technology (cleantech).
