Dr. Miimu Airaksinen appointed as Metropolia's new RDI Director
Dr. Miimu Airaksinen has been appointed as Metropolia's new RDI Director.
The RDI Director is responsible for Metropolia's research, development, and innovation activities, which are carried out in three phenomenon-based innovation hubs: Future Proof Health and Wellbeing, Clean and Sustainable Solutions, and Smart and Creative City.
Airaksinen is joining Metropolia from the construction company SRV, where she has been responsible for sustainable construction and lifecycle-wise strategy as the SVP of Development. Previously, she served as the CEO of RIL and before that as a Research Professor at VTT.
"In my opinion, the applied research conducted at Metropolia is truly inspiring in many ways. It genuinely has the potential to produce new innovations and sustainable growth for Finland. Additionally, when our RDI activities are related to future creative cities or health, they have an impact on everyone's lives," says Miimu Airaksinen.
"In my upcoming role, I want to contribute to strengthening the international connections of Metropolia's RDI activities. Furthermore, I want to continue and enhance the good cooperation that is being done with companies and cities," Airaksinen adds.
Metropolia's long-time RDI Director Anna-Maria Vilkuna will retire in the fall 2025.
