Joint Application quota for applicants who have completed the Preparatory Programme for Higher Education Studies

This quota is about reserving joint application study places for those who have completed or are about to complete the Preparatory Programme for Higher Education Studies. In this context, Preparatory Programme for Higher Education Studies means education:

  • whose scope is 30 credits (ECTS)
  • which could have been completed after 1 April 2019
  • which is aimed at immigrants
  • which is offered in Finnish universities of applied sciences

Other preparatory programmes are not considered. The size of the quota is 5 % of the study places in the selection queue. The quota is not used for the certificate-based selections described at uasinfo.fi.

Applicants will be taken into account in this quota if they:

  1. apply in the joint application to Metropolia's degree programme(s) that use the quota in question
  2. state in the joint application that they have completed or are about to complete the preparatory programme in question
  3. state in the joint application that the preparatory programme in question has been completed in the same language of instruction as the degree programme being applied for (e.g. the preparatory programme must have been completed in English when applying for an English-language degree programme)
  4. upload a proof of the studies to the joint application at Studyinfo no later than 7 days after the end of the application period by 3 pm (current local time in Finland):
    • if the studies are completed: a certificate of completion of the aforementioned studies
    • if the studies are yet to be completed: a study certificate and study register extract from the ongoing studies

If the completion of the studies is in progress at the time of submitting the joint application, the student selection of the quota is conditional until:

  • the applicant has submitted a certificate of completion of the studies by the deadline for accepting the degree programme study place, and
  • Metropolia has ensured that the studies in questions have been completed in full (30 cr ECTS) by the above mentioned deadline.

Please note that completing the preparatory programme is not enough on its own, but to be selected in the joint application, the applicant also must successfully complete the entrance examination, admission course or whatever is used as a basis for student selection by the degree programme in question. More detailed information about the admission criteria can be found in Studyinfo.

What should I do to be considered in the quota?

  1. Submit the joint application during the application period at Studyinfo. The application contains question concerning the matter, in connection with which you must attach a proof of your preparatory programme studies to the application.
  2. Upload the pre-assignment as an attachment to the joint application form at Studyinfo if it is required according to the admission criteria of your chosen Metropolia's degee programme(s).
  3. Participate to the entrance examination, admission course or whatever is required for admission in the degree programme(s) in question. It is not possible to be admitted solely on the basis of the preparatory programme studies but the student selection requires meeting the same admission requirements as other applicants.

Applicants considered in the quota are ranked based on student selection scores. Applicants considered in the quota have their own selection queue, where they compete with each other for the study place reserved for that selection queue. Applicants with the most points are offered a study place according to the study places reserved for the quota (see the degree programmes using the quota below).

Degree programmes using the quota

The quota for applicants who have completed the Preparatory Programme for Higher Education Studies (aimed at immigrants) is used in the joint application in all degree programmes of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, excluding the following:

  • Master's degree programmes
  • degree programmes for which eligibility is defined separately (e.g. top-up degrees)
  • degree programmes for which such a small number of students are selected that reserving places would place the applicants in an unreasonably unequal position (= ≤ 5 studyplaces)

The quota will be used by the following Metropolia's degree programmes in the first joint application of spring 2025
