Metropolia’s international degree programmes attracted over 7,600 applications
The national joint application for higher education programmes conducted in English ended on January 22nd at 3 PM. Metropolia University of Applied Sciences warmly thanks all applicants for their interest in pursuing studies with us.
A total of 730 study places were available in the fields of engineering, business, culture, and health care and social services. The application round included 28 study options across 22 degree programs leading to Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees.
Metropolia’s international appeal reflected in application numbers
Metropolia’s international degree programs received a total of 7,608 applications, of which 2,118 were primary applicants. Attracting international talent to Finland remains a key national objective, as evidenced by the increasing number of applicants to higher education institutions in Finland in recent years.
The top three countries by the number of applicants were Finland, Bangladesh, and Nepal. In total, Metropolia received applicants from 104 different countries, with 64.84% of all applications coming from outside Finland.
”At Metropolia, expanding the international higher education community remains a strategic priority, with the aim of significantly increasing the number of international students. To support this, Metropolia has expanded its offering of English-taught degree programs in recent years”, says Metropolia’s Vice President of Education Heidi Rontu.
The degree programme in Nursing was the most popular study choice in terms of total applications, attracting over 1,482 applications, including 467 primary applicants. The second most popular degree programme, Information Technology, received 769 applications, with 236 of them being primary applicants. The third most popular programme, International Business and Logistics, garnered a total of 692 applications, including 164 primary applicants.
What happens next?
All applicants will be notified of their results according to the schedule set by the national joint application system. Those admitted will join Metropolia’s vibrant community and gain access to top-tier education and facilities designed to prepare students for future success.
After submitting your application, the next steps in the International UAS Exam process are as follows as per UASInfo:
- Language Proficiency Proof: Ensure you've attached the required English language proficiency documents to your Studyinfo application by January 29, 2025, at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+2). This is mandatory for all applicants, including native English speakers.
- Identification Submission: Provide a valid passport or biometric EU/EEA identity card copy with your application. The identification document must be valid until at least March 20, 2025.
- Pre-Identification: Complete the pre-identification process between March 18 and March 20, 2025, using the same identification document submitted with your application. Detailed instructions will be provided via email.
- Exam Invitation: By March 31, 2025, you'll receive an email invitation to the International UAS Exam, scheduled for April 1, 2025, starting at 12:00 noon Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3). The exam assesses readiness for UAS studies and does not require advance reading materials or pre-assignments.
- Exam Participation: On April 1, 2025, take the digital exam remotely using your own computer. Ensure your equipment meets the specified hardware and network requirements.
- Results Notification: After the exam, results will be communicated according to the schedule set by the national joint application system. Successful applicants will receive further instructions on enrollment procedures.
