Study information
Class attendance is essential for understanding of the material and for learning to take place. Absence due to sickness must be communicated to the teacher. Absence from class, regardless of reason, may result in a reduced grade or fewer ECTS in the final transcript. Always be on time so that the class can start when planned, not all teachers let students enter if they arrive late.
You will meet your academic tutor in the beginning of your study period at Metropolia.
Remember to bring..

The Public Health Nurse of Helsinki city performs the checks either in person or online. Please contact her via email and tell her what kind of placement you will go to. The nurse's contact email address is: anni.lampinen [at] hel.fi (anni[dot]lampinen[at]hel[dot]fi)
It is sometimes necessary to visit the nurse in person, so in that case, please make sure to arrive a few working days earlier in order to have enough time to meet the nurse if necessary. The nurses' office is not on campus but in the center of Helsinki (address: Mechelininkatu 46 A, 4th floor). You need an appointment time from the nurse for the personal visit.
Students who will take part in clinical placement in a hospital or health care center will be provided a uniform by the hospital. Students should bring their own indoor shoes and a nametag. A padlock may also be needed.
Students who will have Nursing skills classes on campus would need to bring a uniform from their home country to avoid buying a new one in Finland.
Students in Finland always work 5 days a week (40 hours) in the clinical setting. ECTS credits are issued based on completed hours (27h = 1 ECTS). Students usually need to follow the shifts of their mentor nurse, so syncronizing shifts with a friend may not possible. Students usually work on 5 days a week 8 hours/day, either morning or evening shifts.
